Pakistan, Afghanistan Reach Ceasefire Agreement
(MENAFN) Pakistan and Afghanistan have mutually agreed to implement an immediate ceasefire following negotiations in Doha, according to confirmations from both nations.
The discussions, facilitated by Qatar and Türkiye, aimed to ease tensions between the two neighboring states.
Pakistan's Defense Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, announced that a truce had been established between the two countries.
He emphasized that both sides have pledged to uphold each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Sharing the news via the platform X, owned by the US-based social media company, the minister added that representatives from Pakistan and Afghanistan will reconvene in Istanbul on October 25 for more in-depth deliberations.
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for Afghanistan’s interim government, also confirmed the development.
“Negotiations between representatives of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, held in Qatar, have concluded with the signing of a bilateral agreement,” Mujahid stated on X.
He explained that the agreement signifies a mutual reaffirmation of commitments to peace, dignity, and the maintenance of "strong and constructive neighborly relations."
Mujahid further highlighted that both nations have vowed to refrain from attacking one another’s military personnel, civilians, or infrastructure.
He added that a future review system—mediated by third-party countries—will be established to address disputes and ensure adherence to the ceasefire terms.
