Pakistan Attacks Military Sites, Terrorist Positions in Afghanistan
Security sources stated that troops "effectively destroyed technical support infrastructure and [an] equipment storage facility in Kandahar," the city that houses the Taliban administration’s supreme leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada.
Another strike reportedly targeted a tunnel in Kandahar allegedly used by the Afghan Taliban and the Pakistani Taliban (TTP), which Islamabad blames for recent attacks.
The Pakistani military later reported that four civilians, all brothers, were killed when Afghan shelling struck a house in Bajaur, on Pakistan’s side of the border, and that another person was seriously injured. Both governments maintain that civilians are not intentional targets.
Independent verification is difficult due to the remote and volatile nature of the affected areas.
Local residents in Kandahar said they observed military aircraft over the city and heard explosions overnight. One resident said: "Military planes flew over the mountain where there is a military facility, and an explosion followed," noting that flames were visible.
Residents also reported an air strike in Spin Boldak, southeast of Kandahar, while authorities in the eastern province of Khost noted clashes on Saturday night.
Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the strikes caused some damage to a drug rehabilitation center and an empty container in Kandahar.
