Trump Declares US Naval Blockade on Iran, With Support from Other Nations
In an interview, Trump confirmed the blockade plans, saying, "Well, we're going to be blockading. It'll take a little while, but it'll be effective pretty soon." He emphasized that the US would not allow Iran to profit from oil sales to favored nations, while excluding others.
"We're putting on a complete blockade. We're not going to let Iran make money on selling oil to people that they like and not people that they don't like," he added.
While Trump did not specify which countries would join the effort, he mentioned that Gulf states are already providing support. He also highlighted the potential risks posed by mines in the Strait of Hormuz, describing Iran’s actions as "extortion." Trump pointed out that Iran could plant mines to threaten international shipping, causing significant financial losses to ships.
To address this threat, Trump revealed that the US, along with other countries, would deploy advanced minesweepers in the Strait of Hormuz to clear any mines left by Iran. “We have minesweepers there. Now we have highly sophisticated underwater minesweepers, which are the latest and the greatest, but we’re also bringing in more traditional minesweepers. And so I understand ... the UK and a couple of other countries are sending mine sweepers,” he said.
