Tehran Rejects Claims of New US-Iran Talks During Islamabad Visit
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei stated that “no meeting is planned to take place between Iran and the US” during the trip, emphasizing that Tehran’s positions would instead be communicated through Pakistan.
Araghchi described his travel to Pakistan as a coordinated diplomatic tour aimed at consulting regional partners and discussing bilateral and regional developments. Iranian state media said the visit is part of ongoing diplomatic efforts related to tensions involving the United States and Israel.
The denial came shortly after reports that the US administration had planned to send envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Islamabad for potential discussions, with Vice President J.D. Vance reportedly on standby depending on the outcome of early contacts.
While Tehran has dismissed the idea of direct talks during this visit, reports suggest that indirect communication through Pakistani mediation could still take place.
According to earlier statements from Washington, a ceasefire framework with Iran was extended, with expectations of further proposals from Tehran while broader tensions remain unresolved, including ongoing disputes linked to maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and global energy markets.
